Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Training

To reach journeyman status, an apprentice has to graduate from an extensive four-year training program. The four-year program consists of four one-year segments that include eight thousand hours of continuous on-the-job training and a minimum of five hundred and seventy-six hours of related classroom instruction.

The Apprentice Training consists of the following: 

1st Year

OHSA 10 hour Safety program
1st Aid-CPR
Pattern Layout
Basic Sheet Metal Fabrication
Drafting 1
Basic Math (Algebra, Geometry)
Soldering
Basic welding & cutting SMAW
Miscellaneous Theory

2nd Year

Trigonometry
Advanced pattern development
Advanced Sheet Metal Fabrication
Drafting 2
Architectural Theory and layout
Welding GMAW (D9.1 Sheet Metal Code Certification)

3rd Year

CAD
Airflow
Duct design
Psychometrics
Fans & fan laws
Drafting (sheet metal shop drawings)
Welding -SMAW - D1.1 Structural test
Organizing & industry promotion, labor history, theory, & practical experience

4th Year

Clean Room Training
CAD-2
Cost awareness/Sheet Metal Computer Estimating
Foreman Training
Field Mathematics
First-Aid/CPR
